The heartbeat of Bilingüitos

Bilingüitos was founded in 2016 by Kaila Diaz as a way to provide families in Northern Virginia with Spanish language input for their kids through game-based educational programs. It quickly grew and expanded to not only include in-person instruction, but online resources such as a network for bilingual families, the Bilingual Parenting Podcast, digital courses like the ones hosted here, and live classes too. Over the years, Bilingüitos has become an incredible hub for families all over the world bonded together around the shared passion for bilingualism and language transmission.

Our mission is first and foremost to cultivate and celebrate bilingualism, and to help you do the same in your home for your family. Through our library of online resources, we aim to equip you with the knowledge and tools you need in order to forge the path to bilingualism for your children, and this includes having digital courses available at your fingertips!

We believe that passing down / preserving a target language is not always easy, but that it is always, A L W A Y S worth it!

Get to know our founder & director

Kaila Diaz is a linguist and language educator residing in her native Loudoun County, Virginia. Kaila studied early childhood education in her early years of undergrad but ultimately chose to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics with a concentration in Language Education. In 2018, she graduated summa cum laude from George Mason University with a Master’s Degree in Linguistics with a concentration in Childhood & Family Bilingualism.

Kaila’s passion for language has many facets. She grew up bilingual in a monolingual home through various learning opportunities, and later in middle school and high school she academically studied Spanish, Latin, and Greek. In 2013 & 2014 she lived in Nicaragua doing linguistic fieldwork with the indigenous language Mískitu in Puerto Cabezas and surrounding communities and villages, while also teaching preschool to trilingual kids. In 2016, Kaila resided in Perú where she studied with the Summer Institute of Linguistics, going deeper into linguistic fieldwork focusing on indigenous minority languages, literacy work, and community language revitalization/sustainability.

Her mission now is to cultivate and celebrate bilingualism as she raises her own bilingüitos and connects with other families doing the same. Combining her passion for language and early childhood education, Kaila founded Bilingüitos in 2016 and has been amazed by its growth over the years. Even though she serves as director of Bilingüitos as a whole, she is an incredibly passionate teacher, and many of our courses and live classes are led by Kaila herself.
